SUNLAND PARK, NM–JANUARY 1, 2024–The 65th season of live horse racing at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino begins Friday with a pair of Thoroughbred stakes races highlighting a nine-race program.
Friday’s opening day program, featuring the $90,000 New Mexico State Racing Commission Handicap and the $65,000 KLAQ Stakes, will be featured opening day at the racetrack near the Texas-New Mexico border. Both races are for Thoroughbreds.
Loaded with stakes races, Sunland Park offers some of the most attractive races for Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses in the region. The calendar features 38 stakes worth purses of $4.25 million.
Post time during the 55-day season will be 12:25 p.m. Racing will be held Thursday through Sunday during all but opening week, with the closing day on Sunday, April 6.
