Funeral services are pending for longtime Iowa horseman Butch Hammer.

NORWALK, IA–MARCH 26, 2025–Past IQHRA President and AQHA Director Emeritus Butch Hammer, 86, passed away on March 22, 2025.

Hammer was originally involved with show horses but added a passion for racing and served the industry for many decades.

A tireless volunteer, his main focus was supporting youth in countless organizations, including as a driving force in youth racing programs.

He served as president of the Iowa Quarter Horse Racing Association for more than 10 years and as an AQHA Director and chairman of the Racing Council. In 2016, he earned the AQHA Merle Wood Humanitarian Award.

Hammer is an Iowa Quarter Horse Racing Association Hall of Fame member.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Wyetta, daughter Dorie of Iowa, son Eric, daughter-in-law Seeta, and granddaughter Shivea of Texas.
