Funeral Service Set Friday for LQHBA Hall of Famer Norman Glenn Fontenot

VILLE PLATTE, LA–MAY 28, 2025–Funeral services for Norman Glenn Fontenot, 87, will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church in Ville Platte, Louisiana.

Norman Glenn, a lifelong resident of Ville Platte, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Mercy Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loved ones.

Visitation will be held at LaVille Funeral Home on Thursday, May 29, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a rosary at 6:30 PM. Visitation will resume on Friday at 8:00 AM until the funeral at 10:00 AM.

Born and raised in Ville Platte, Norman Glenn grew up working the land alongside his father and brothers. He valued hard work but never overlooked the importance of education, graduating from Ville Platte High School. As a young man, he also proudly competed in the Tournoi, reflecting his lifelong love for horses and tradition.

A lifelong farmer, Norman Glenn dedicated his life to raising rice, soybeans, and cattle—but his true passion was breeding and raising Quarter Horses. In recognition of his excellence in agriculture, he was named Young Farmer of the Year in 1966.

He was a lifelong member of the Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association (LQHBA) and was inducted into the LQHBA Hall of Fame in 2023 (see related story), a fitting tribute to a life spent nurturing land, livestock, and legacy.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to his family, his community, and his life’s passions.

Norman Glenn will be deeply missed by his wife, Jackie Fontenot of Ville Platte; sons, Dr. Tommy Fontenot and wife Lori of Ville Platte, Barry Fontenot and wife Stephanie of Pine Point, and Donovan Fontenot and wife Diane of Vidrine; daughter, Anne Reed and husband Mike of Pine Prairie; stepson, Tim Richard and wife Laura of Moss Bluff; stepdaughters, Celeste Rivette and husband Blair of Youngsville, and Nina Trahan and husband Brock of Ville Platte; and sister, Jolene Tate and husband Bob of Dallas, Texas. He was a proud grandfather to many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Luke and Eldie Shuff Fontenot; his son, David Fontenot; grandsons, Joey Hollahan and Joshua Paul Fontenot; and stepdaughter, Cynthia Laughlin.
