With More Rain On The Way, Racing Cancelled On Sunday Night At Los Alamitos

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—JANUARY 4, 2026—With rain set to continue throughout the day in Southern California, Los Alamitos has cancelled its racing program for Sunday night.

The heaviest part of Sunday’s rainstorm is expected to occur here from 5 to 6 p.m., which would have coincided with the scheduled first post tonight, followed by steady rain for the rest of the evening.

The Southern California area has had a series of heavy rainstorms since December 23, resulting in the cancellations of three racing programs at Los Alamitos on Saturday, December 27, Saturday, January 3 and Sunday, January 4. The current rainstorm appears to be the last of this series with clear skies on the forecast for the upcoming weekend.

The eight-races carded for Saturday, January 3 will now be offered as late extras on Saturday, January 10. Entries for that card will be taken on Wednesday, January 7. Plans for races carded for tonight, which included the Grade 1 James Dreyer Charger Bar Handicap, will be announced later today.

Los Alamitos remains open for simulcasting on Sunday with racing from Oaklawn Park, Aqueduct and Gulfstream heading the daytime slate. Harness racing and racing from Australia will be offered as part of the nighttime simulcasts on Sunday. Additional updates will be provided as they become available.
