ELK CITY, OK–JUNE 15, 2026–George Harry "Buddy" Suthers passed away June 11 in Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 81.
Born July 21, 1944, in Shattuck, Oklahoma, Suthers graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in agriculture. After working as assistant beef herdsman at OSU, he moved to Sayre in 1968 and joined the Merrick 14 Ranch, where he managed the horse breeding operation alongside his wife, Lynnie.
For more than 30 years, Buddy and Lynnie oversaw all aspects of the ranch's breeding program. During that time, they managed the operation through the rise of Easy Jet and helped develop and market Merrick-bred horses through major Quarter Horse yearling sales.
Suthers also served on the Board of Directors for Heritage Place Sales Company in Oklahoma City, where he was involved with one of the Quarter Horse industry's leading sale companies.
In addition to his work in the horse industry, Suthers served as assistant city manager for Sayre from 2000 to 2004 before entering full-time ministry at Trinity Fellowship.
He is survived by his wife, Lynnie; sons Destry and Ben; three grandsons; sister Sherilyn Shill; and numerous family members and friends.
A memorial service will be held this Thursday at 11 AM at 18935 U.S. Rte 66 N, Sayre, OK 73662. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Trinity Fellowship Camp of Champions at P.O. Box 452, Sayre, OK 73662 or online at justasyouare.com
