Fuego, a new stallion incentive guaranteeing a single $5 million futurity in 2028, has opened stallion nominations.

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—AUGUST 1, 2026—Fuego, a new stallion incentive program built around a limited 50-stallion roster and an annual feature event, has opened stallion nominations. The inaugural year guarantees a single $5 million futurity for foals sired by stallions on that roster and nominated to the program.

The program was founded by established figures in the Quarter Horse industry, including Royal Vista Ranch owner Cole Morehead; Chad Beus, co-founder of the barrel racing stallion incentive Pink Buckle and an owner at Red River Equine; Juan Tirado and his daughter Marbella, who own Apollitical Jess — the No. 1 All-Time Leading Living Sire in Quarter Horse racing, with progeny earnings exceeding $87 million; and Ross Roark, AQHA Professional Horseman and a name synonymous with excellence in the industry.

"The stallion incentive model has worked across multiple equine disciplines," said Chad Beus. "There is no doubt that the racehorse industry fits the model even better than the others. We are confident that this will change the game for racehorse breeders, owners and stallion owners."

The program's inaugural Championship Day is scheduled for 2028 at Remington Park in Oklahoma City. Four 350-yard finals will be run, divided into stud-fee flights: the Inferno Flight for $2 million, and the Caliente, Azul and Ember Flights for $1 million each.

The flight structure is what separates Fuego from a conventional futurity or incentive. A foal's flight is set at conception by its sire's advertised stud fee and cannot change: Inferno for stallions advertised at $15,001 and up, Caliente from $7,501 to $15,000, Azul from $2,501 to $7,500, and Ember at $2,500 and below. A horse conceived off a $2,000 fee therefore never has to outrun one conceived off a $15,000 fee for the same money.

Purse money on Championship Day is split 80 percent to the racehorse owner, 10 percent to the breeder, and 10 percent to the stallion nominator — meaning the stallion owner who takes a Fuego slot keeps a share of every dollar his offspring earn in the finals.

"Every breeder makes the same calculation every spring: breed to the horse you believe in, or breed to the one whose foals have somewhere to run for real money," according to Cole Morehead. "Those should not be two different horses. Flights make it one decision instead of two."

A Fuego slot carries a $25,000 annual fee and a commitment of at least 20 nominated foals per year. Slots are treated as transferable assets: an owner may swap the stallion occupying the slot, lease the slot, or sell it outright.

Qualifying trials for the 2028 finals will be held two to three weeks before Championship Day, with all flights running together. Forty finalists — ten in each flight — advance to Championship Day as the Fuego Fast Forty.

The flights are a floor, not a ceiling. All four flights trial together, and any horse fast enough to qualify in the top 10 may elect into the $2 million Inferno final — so standing a $2,500 stallion caps nothing about what his foals can win.

Fuego has also announced an integrity program built around a secured Finalist Barn housing every qualifier between the trials and the finals, with advanced testing technology applied equally to every horse in the field.
