Feature Mr Bojangles - A $16,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale purchase, the third-fastest qualifier won the fifth of 22 trials by a half length over fourth-fastest qualifier Bovet. The winner of the Four Corners Futurity at SunRay Park, Feature Mr Bojangles was bred by Joyce Erickson of Albuquerque and is owned by Roberto Sanchez’s S/M Cattle Export Company of Anthony, Texas, and Jaime Dominguez of Peyton, Colorado.
The colt is the first stakes winner of five winners from six starters out of a maiden half sister to champion Jumping Tac Flash ($147,065) and Governor’s Cup Futurity (RG1) winner and successful sire Splash Bac ($135,505), both by champion Tolltac; and Grade 2 winner Goinbye ($52,411, by Dashin Bye).
Feature Mr Bojangles is trained by Roberto Sanchez and was ridden in the trials by multiple champion jockey G.R. Carter Jr., who won the 1996 Rainbow Futurity aboard Swingin Val.
Albuquerque, New Mexico, based breeder Joyce Erickson is a 10 year cumulative breeder whose horses have earned more than $814,000 with 52 wins in 492 starts. They include Grade 2 winner and sire Heza Motor Scooter.
Feature Mr Jess (1998, Mr Jess Perry-Brenda Feature by Truckle Feature) won the 2000 Rainbow Futurity (G1) and 2001 Rainbow Derby (G1), and with earnings of $539,327, compiled a race record of 16-7-3-3. The stallion died in 2009. From 561 starters in seven crops raced, Feature Mr Jess has sired four champions, 41 other stakes winners, 284 other winners and the earners of more than415.2 million. With progeny earnings of $1,293,262 to date this year, Feature Mr Jess currently is the fifth-ranked sire of money earners in 2011.
