Bovet - The fourth-fastest qualifier to the Futurity was second to third-fastest qualifier Feature Mr Bojangles in the fifth of 22 trials. The Corona Cartel filly broke her maiden in her first start, when she qualified to the Sam Houston Futurity (G2). She finished ninth in the Houston final and came into the Rainbow trials off a fifth in the May 27 trials to the Ruidoso Futurity (G1).

Bovet is one of five winners from seven starters out of Retama Park Futurity (G1) winner Jess Genuine, a $195,175 earner who also was second in All American Winner’s Sam Houston Futurity (then G1) and has produced the earners of $238,196.

A homebred racing for former champion owner Bobby Cox of Fort Worth, Texas, Bovet is a half sister to Grade 1-placed Oceanik ($132,065). Trained by John Buchanan, winner of the 2009 Rainbow Futurity with Zoomin With Ease, the filly was ridden in the trials by Buchanan’s son-in-law, Russel Hadley, who rode Zoomin With Ease in the Rainbow Futurity.

Corona Cartel (1994, Holland Ease-Corona Chick by Chicks Beduino) earned $557,142 while compiling a race record of 14-6-3-0, including winning the 1996 Los Alamitos Million Futurity (G1) and Kindergarten Futurity (G2). From 923 starters in 11 crops raced, Corona Cartel has sired five champions, 110 other stakes winners, 531 other winners and the earners of more than$34.4 million, to rank fifth all-time. With progeny earnings of $1,176,530 to date this year, Corona Cartel currently is the seventh-ranked sire of money earners in 2011.
