“G.R. Carter rides them both. He picked ‘Llano’ the first time (they were in the same race). I think this time he’s going to pick ‘DM,’ ” Wootan said. “I think DM is probably a faster horse at 440. He’s a longer jumping horse, but it’s going to depend on who gets the break. I think either one of them sure has a shot at winning.”

Wootan said he’d be thrilled if either horse won, but DM is owned with three of his longtime friends. This is the first horse that Sturdevant has owned, and Wootan jokes that “he got spoiled on the first one.”

Owning horses in partnerships is especially fun for Wootan, and he says it’s the way he owns most of his horses. “It’s a whole lot more fun when you’ve got four or five people. You go to the races together, sit together, get nervous together and talk about it all year together.”

Dm Streakin Thru Fire's breeder, Elk City, Oklahoma, resident Don Moler, has since 2001 bred the earners of more than $2.9 million. They include world champion DM Shicago, who he raced in partnership.
