Paul Jones is the all-time leading trainer in American Quarter Horse racing. He has conditioned the earners of more than $74.4 million and came into the trials having sent out 3,761 winners from 20,174 starts. Jones has won the Blane Schvaneveldt Champion Trainer award 12 consecutive times – every year since 2002 – and now is tied with the award’s namesake who won it consecutively from 1985 through 1996. Jones has won the All American Futurity (G1) three times, with Teller Cartel in 2005, No Secrets Here in 2006 and Runnning Brook Gal in 2009. He won the All American Derby (G1) twice, the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity (G1) twice, and the Champion Of Champions (G1) six times.

Paul Jones put Ramon Sanchez aboard champion Runnning Brook Gal to win the 2009 All American Futurity. Since 1999, Sanchez has ridden the winners of 1,591 races and the earners of more than $30.1 million from 8.982 races. Last year, Sanchez won Grade 1 races aboard Llano Teller in the All American Derby; I Like The Odds in the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity; Separate Fire in the Ed Burke Million and Kindergarten futurities; Favorite Cartel in the Bank of America Challenge Championship; Feature Honor in the Adequan Derby Challenge Championship; and Stylish Jess BR in the Charger Bar Handicap.

Alone or in partnership, Ruidoso Downs owner R.D. Hubbard has raced many champions, including Ketel Won, Stoli, Super Sound Charge, Denim N Diamonds, Noconi and Brenda Beautiful.

Barry Thompson bred and raced champion Leading Spirit, who won the Grade 1 Ruidoso and West Texas futurities. Based in West, Texas, Thompson has bred 86 winners from 582 starters, and the earners of more than $1.6 million. The horses are highlighted by champion and two-time Grade 1 winner Leading Spirit.

Royally Sandra - Grade 1 futurity qualifier Royally Sandra won her second consecutive and third lifetime race to post the seventh-fastest qualifying time to the Derby by winning the last of seven trials by a neck over ninth-fastest qualifier Giorgino; Remington Park stakes winner Pretty In Petticoats finished third in the trial but failed to qualify for the final.

Royally Sandra last year finished fourth in the Ruidoso Futurity (G1) and fifth in Cold Cash 123’s Southwest Juvenile Championship (G1) at Zia Park. Bred by former Texas A&M chancellor Barry Thompson of West, Texas, and owned in partnership with Ruidoso Downs owner R.D. Hubbard, Royally Sandra is from the family of Thompson’s homebred Leading Spirit, a champion gelding by Special Leader out of the Special Task mare Sandras Task, who is a full sister to graded stakes winner Leading Diva ($138,174) and Royally Sandra’s unraced dam.

Trained by Paul Jones, winner of three of the last five runnings of the Rainbow Derby, Royally Sandra in the trials was ridden for the first time by Ramon Sanchez.

Royal Quick Dash (1989, First Down Dash-Harems Choice by Beduino (TB)) was a champion and All American Futurity (G1) winner and earned $1,046,980 and compiled a record of 18-7-5-2. With 1,099 starters from 16 crops raced, Royal Quick Dash has sired one champion, 79 other stakes winners, 599 other winners and the earners of more than $19 millon. With progeny earnings of $336,527 to date this year, Royal Quick Dash currently is the 45th-ranked sire of money earners in 2011.
