The son and assistant trainer of leading trainer Mike Joiner and a successful trainer in his own right, Cody Joiner since 2000 has conditioned the winners of 84 of 478 starts. His starters have earned more than $1.15 million. Joiner sent out Terrific Synergy to score in the July 28 Governor’s Cup Derby (RG2) at Los Alamitos.

G.R. Carter Jr. is the all-time-everything rider in American Quarter Horse racing. The 10-time AQHA champion jockey is the all-time leader by money, having ridden the earners of more than $65.8 million, and by wins, having gone into the trials with scores aboard 3,663 winners from 23,141 starts. Carter has won the All American Futurity (G1) twice, on Falling In Loveagain in 1998 and on world champion Stolis Winner in 2008. On the first day of trials, Carter won seven of the 14 heats and was aboard four of the five finalists qualified on Thursday afternoon.

Patrick D. Guthrie and Billy G. Smith, in partnership with Vessels Stallion Farm, campaigned FDD Dynasty. The partners also ran Jess Delightful in Planet Holland’s Rainbow Futurity (G1) and Jess Satin in DM Shicago’s All American Futurity (G1).

Smith is a real estate developer in New Mexico, where he also owns other businesses.

Guthrie retired in 1998 at age 44 after selling his company, Health Care Financial Advisors, which provides financial consulting services for hospitals around the nation.

Terrific Synergy - Terrific Synergy was a $27,000 purchase at the Los Alamitos Equine Sale. Making his first start since a strong comeback to finish fourth in the June 26 Ed Burke Million Futurity (G1), Billy Smith and Pat Guthrie’s Terrific Synergy flew past his rivals to win the fourth trial to the Golden State. Ridden by G.R. Carter, who picked up the mount in place of the injured Jacky Martin, Terrific Synergy broke fourth before rolling powerfully in the second half of the race to post a half-length victory in :19.805.

Terrific Synergy is the first foal out of the multiple Grade 1-winning Terrific Energy, who was campaigned by the Parson Family. The Parsons Family Trust bred Terrific Synergy and also bred 2011 stakes winner Azshecanfly.

From the first crop of champion FDD Dynasty ($1,173,001), Terrific Synergy is the first foal out of Grade 1 winner Terrific Energy ($181,919). FDD Dynasty won eight of 11 races over two years, competing in a crop that included world champion Blues Girl Too, All American Futurity (G1) winner No Secrets Here and champion Jess You And I. He won the Ed Burke Million Futurity (G1), was second in the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity (G1) and third in the Golden State Million Futurity (G1). He would go on to win the Governor’s Cup Derby (RG2) and Go Man Go Handicap (G1) and was the sport’s champion 2-year-old colt and champion 3-year-old colt in the two seasons he raced. The stallion stands at Vessels Stallion Farm in Bonsall, California, and has sired 32 winners from 67 starters, including four stakes winners.

The Mr Jess Perry mare Terrific Energy is out of a First Down Dash daughter of Tinys Effort (by Special Effort), dam of Tiny First Effort (by First Down Dash, $445,393), Tiny First Down (by First Down Dash, $317,881), Tiny Dash Of Cash (by Dash For Cash, $209,452), etc. Terrific Energy won the 2009 Charger Bar Handicap (G1) and Mildred N. Vessels Memorial Handicap (G1) and was second in the Merial Distaff Challenge Championship (G1).
