On January 21, Kristen Watanabe sent out her first winner ever at Los Alamitos Race Course when the 5-year-old sprinter Gordon RB won the evening’s 10th race. Watanabe now has her first futurity trial winner after Samuel Henderson’s First Outburst upset the field to win his heat to the Golden State.

Watanabe began training in 2010 after a decade of working for 1997 AQHA Champion Trainer Donna McArthur. For many years, Watanabe was side-by-side with McArthur in the winner’s circle for stakes wins recorded by champions Corona Kool and Deelish. For 11 years, Watanabe also dated the highly respected jockey Sam Thompson, who passed away in December 2008 following a riding accident at Los Alamitos Race Course.

Cody Jensen rode Houdini to win this year’s Rainbow Derby, Lovethewayyoulie to win the Heritage Place Futurity (G1) and Kiss My Hocks to win the Ruidoso Futurity (G1). The AQHA Champion Jockey in 2013, when he rode the earners of $3,154,543, Jensen in his career has ridden 1,477 winners and the earners of more than $30.78 million from 8,761 mounts. Jensen won the 2009 All American Derby on champion Inseperable and qualified Houdini and Down Side Magician to this year’s running. Jensen also rode back-to-back winners in the All American Futurity (G1), Teller Cartel and No Secrets Here in 2005-06.

First Outburst - Samuel Henderson’s First Outburst upset the field to win his heat to the Golden State. Sent off at odds of 16-1, First Outburst covered the distance in :19.861 while defeating Jennifers Challenge by three parts of a side.

The son of All Time Leading Sire First Down Dash was bred in California by John Andreini from the Calyx mare Make A Run. Andreini has bred 8 stakes winners, 89 winners and earners of $3. 28 million.

Make A Run is a grade 3 winner of $153,236 and set a new 400 yard track record at Retama Park in :19.820 seconds. She is the dam of 11 ROM including grade 2 winner Make A Secret ($267,605) and grade 1 placed Check This Runner ($148,053).
