I also trained his mother (Fancys First Affair), and he reminds me a lot of her. He looks just like her, he acts just like her, and he has got the gate speed that she had. He reminds me of her a ton. The only difference between the two is that this horse took a little bit of time to figure things out, but Fancys First Affair got it right from the start. He is figuring it out, and that’s exciting.”

Veteran rider Saul Ramirez has since 1983 guided home the winners of 1,389 of 9,659 races. His mounts have brought home more than $22.2 million to their connections. Among his top rides were victories aboard Blues Girl Too and One Famous Eagle in the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity (G1), and a win in the 2007 Champion of Champions with Blues Girl Too. Ramirez was aboard Five Bar Cartel when the colt won the Ed Burke last year. He has also ridden Grade 1 winners Igotyourtac, Planet Holland, A Touch Of Victory, Sixes Liaison, GJR Snowman, Cayenne Smash, Fancys First Affair, Vital Time, Prankster CF, First Down Runner, Far Niente, Eyesaflash, Bungalow Bud, Vital Time, Jabuti Eagle SA and Victory Defined.

I Like The Odds - I Like The Odds was a $150,000 repurchase at the 2010 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. The gelding competed in trials for the three major futurities at Ruidoso Downs over the summer but broke his maiden on his first out over the Los Alamitos surface. He next contested the Golden State Million Futurity trials, finishing second behind qualifier Regardless. In his Los Alamitos Two Million trial, he held well to finish a half length ahead of fellow qualifier BPS Jumpin Frisco.

I Like The Odds was bred by Tom Bradbury and Kim Kessinger, who repurchased him at the Ruidoso Select sale and sold a third interest to Howard Nichols. Bradbury and Kessinger campaigned I Like The Odds’ dam Fancys First Affair, who won the 2007 La Primera Del Ano Derby (G1). Bradbury owns and raced in partnership with Marvin Willhite stakes winner Dolls Prodigy, who produced stakes winner Shazooms Doll (by Shazoom, $92,275). Bradbury also owned and campaigned world champion Dash For Speed in partnership with Bob Blakeman. Kessinger, in partnership with Jim Geiler, raced world champion Whosleavingwho ($1,334,842).

The 17-year-old Corona Cartel won the Million in 1996, when it was still the Los Alamitos Million Futurity (G1). Retiring with earnings of $557,142, the Holland Ease stallion out of all-time leading dam Corona Chick has from 11 crops sired the earners of more than $36 million. His foals include five champions, 118 stakes winners and 663 winners from 939 starters. He is the sire of the all-time leading distaffer by earnings and the third-leading all-time earner, world champion Blues Girl Too ($2,032,328). Corona Cartel stands at Lazy E Ranch in Guthrie, Oklahoma.

Fancys First Affair is a Grade 1-winning daughter of First Down Dash out of Party Girl Affair (by Streakin La Jolla, $210,340) and has produced one winner from two starters.
