Wesley Todd Giles sent out Larry Gamez on the Stoli filly Trendi to score a 44-1 upset over Kiss My Hocks in the $900,000 Rainbow Futurity (G1) on July 20. The son of Ed Giles, who was a national leading trainer in the 1980s and early ’90s, Wesley took out his own license in 1981 and began training full-time on his own in 1995. Wesley has conditioned the winners of 887 races and the earners of more than $14.58 million from 5,554 starters.

Scoring his first Grade 1 victory, Larry Gamez rode the Wesley Giles-trained filly Trendi to score a 44-1 upset over Kiss My Hocks in the $900,000 Rainbow Futurity on July 20. Since he began riding in 1978, Gamez has piloted 680 winners and the earners of more than $5.86 million from 4,891 mounts.

Too Flash For You broke his maiden on his fifth start and scored his sole win as a 2-year-old when he won his trial to the Zia Futurity (RG1) at Ruidoso Downs. He then finished ninth in the $409,434 final won by Handsome Jack Flash, who went on to win the All American Futurity (G1) and end the year as champion freshman. That same season as a freshman, Too Flash For You ran in eight other races, including the Sunland Park Winter Futurity (G2), New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) and Mountain Top Futurity (RG3).

Undefeated in three starts this year, Too Flash For You opened his sophomore campaign in the $85,320 New Mexico HBA Stakes (RG2) on February 16 at Sunland Park and came into the trials for the All American Derby (G1) off the $45,000 New Mexico Breeders’ Stakes (RG2) on May 18 at Ruidoso.

The multiple track-record-setting First Moonflash ($969,828) was the champion aged stallion in 2009, when he set the :20.274 quarter-mile world record in the Bank of America New Mexico Championship Challenge (G1) at Sunland Park and also won his second consecutive running of The Championship at Sunland Park (G1). The now 9-year-old son of champion First To Flash was the leading freshman sire last year, when he was represented at stud by the earners of $2,243,679, including champion and All American Futurity winner Handsome Jack Flash ($1,484,971). Now, from 109 starters in two crops raced, First Moonflash has sired six other stakes winners and the earners of more than $2.89 million, including current All American Futurity (G1) qualifier Mad About The Moon.

Too Flash For You is one of seven winners and the earners of more than $318,000 from 11 starters out of the winning Rare Form mare Rare Pie ($11,084), who in 1996 ran in Darkelly’s Blue Ribbon Futurity (G1). Rare Pie is out of the winning Pie In The Sky mare Afton Pie ($4,114), who is out of a stakes-placed Lady Bug’s Moon mare and is a half-sister to three stakes winners, including A Smooth Bug ($43,286) and A Smooth Afton Bug ($15,454), both by Jet Smooth; and The Swift Lady ($24,221) by Mr Master Bug.

Too Flash For You is the first stakes winner bred by Sarah E. Donaldson Rioux of Deming, New Mexico. Rioux has bred four winners and the earners of more than $198,000 from nine starters, including Too Flash For You’s stakes-placed half-brother Famous Pie ($14,285) by Dash Ta Fame.
