Potenzza returns to familiar territory of Grade 1 competition at Ruidoso. The filly last year was a finalist in and finished third, a neck off the pace, in the $1 million Rainbow Futurity (G1).
This year she has finished second once and third once in four starts, including a third-place finish behind Kates Dynasty and The Ultimate Eagle in the ninth All American Derby trial. The filly has earned $108,535 in her career.
Potenzza is a daughter of champion and leading sire Mr Jess Perry, who from 1,111 starters in 16 crops raced has sired eight champions and the earners of more than $44.5 million. The 22-year-old son of Streakin La Jolla and the winning Sinn Fein mare Scooopie Fein ($15,807) is a top-10 all-time leading sire of broodmares and was the No. 1 broodmare sire in 2013.
Dam Las Alamitos is a daughter of First Down Dash and has been a fruitful producer. The Grade 1-placed earner of $202,480 has produced 10 winners from 17 starters, including three stakes winners. They include Grade 1 winner Ragazzo (by Shazoom, $559,500), Grade 1-placed stakes winner Giorgino (by Apollo (TB), $324,004),stakes winner Features Lucky Charm (by Feature Mr Jess, $42,926) and stakes-placed runner Las Pink Panther (by Panther Mountain, $21,474).
She is a full sister to top sire Holland Ease ($361,227), champion Four Forty Blast ($321,356), Grade 1-placed Brisco County Jr ($118,225) and producer Dividends Declared ($93,160, dam of Grade 1 winner High Rate Of Return ($456,010) and Grade 2 winner Somethin Like This ($149,470)).
