PEDIGREE
Big Dashing Perry - Qualifying time: :21.184

Big Dashing Perry won the first of 12 trials and his :21.184 for 440 yards held up throughout the afternoon as the fastest-qualifying time to the $1,920,887 All American Derby (G1) at Ruidoso Downs.

“This is the first time I’ve ridden him,” said champion jockey G.R. Carter Jr. “I stood him in the gate and he was perfect. Today he just ran a nice race. He broke well and finished strong. He’s a pro and he likes the distance.”

Big Dashing Perry was making his first start since finishing a close third in Mr Big’s $167,300 Sam Houston Derby (G3) on April 19. Now the winner of five of seven starts, the gelding started his career with three consecutive wins, a streak capped with Bobby Martinez sending him out under David Alvarez to score a three-quarter-length win in the $265,775 Firecracker Futurity (G2) on July 4 at Delta Downs.

Big Dashing Perry is one of 120 stakes winners by champion and third-all-time leading sire Mr Jess Perry ($687,184), who from 1,111 starters in 16 crops raced has sired eight champions and the earners of more than $44.5 million. The 22-year-old son of Streakin La Jolla and the winning Sinn Fein mare Scooopie Fein ($15,807) is a top-10 all-time leading sire of broodmares and was the No. 1 broodmare sire in 2013.
