Ruidoso New Mexico Bred QH Yearlings See Average Increase Night One With $160,000 Sale Topper

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM–AUGUST 16, 2024–All American Ruidoso Horse Sale Company's sale of New Mexico-bred yearlings kicked off this evening with an increase in average over last year's opening session.

The sales company reported that 31 of the 35 Quarter Horses through the ring on Friday evening sold for gross receipts of $875,000, compared to 12 more horses sold in last year's opening session for $930,000.

The opening day average Quarter Horse price of $28,226 was up 21% compared to $23,260 on night 1 in 2023. The median tonight was $15,000.

"We were very pleased with tonight’s numbers," All American Horse Sale Company General Manager Walt Wiggins said. "Very appreciative of the consignors who stood by us and the solid support shown by the trainers and buyers purchasing these yearlings. The sale continues tomorrow with more outstanding NM Bred Quarter Horse Yearlings."

Johnny Trotter paid $160,000 for Friday's sale-topper, Icy Cartel (Hip 109). Mike Logan, Agent, consigned the Big Daddy Cartel colt, the first foal out of New Mexico Classic Futurity(RG2) winner Icy Morning Breeze. This is the family of Rainbow Futurity(G1) winner Hes Too Icy For Me.

Norman Allen paid $85,000 for the second high-seller, Hip 100 Mi Bella Reina, a daughter of leading third-crop sire Eye Am King. The January filly is from the first foals of Mi Bella Beso, a Kiss My Hocks half-sister to stakes winner Royal Sin Tacha. Grade 3 winner Sin Tacha Perry is the second dam.

MJ Farms consigned the third high-seller, Hip 86 Goldeneyee. Tod and Gene Bradley paid $80,000 for the Eye Am King half-brother to stakes winner Sister Sophia. This is the family of champions Alice K White and Astica.

MJ Farms was the sale's leading consignor on night one with six yearlings grossing $254,000. Mike Logan, Agent sold two head for $200,000 and Rivera Farms had two for $105,00.

Big Daddy Cartel was the leading sale sire on night one (by average, two or more sold), with seven yearlings averaging $48,929. Eye Am King sold seven for a $41,786 average, and Jet Black Patriot had five yearlings for an average of $13,400.
