Ruidoso New Mexico Bred Quarter Horse Sale Sees Gains In Average, Median, Gross

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM–AUGUST 17, 2024–Ruidoso New Mexico-Bred QH Yearling Sale ended this evening (Aug 17) with across-the-board gross, average, and median increases over 2023. The $38,974 average is a 36% increase over last year's record sale.

"The sale reflects the overall quality of the New Mexico Quarter Horse breeding program for both breeders and racehorse owners," said Walt Wiggins, All American Ruidoso Horse Sale Company General Manager. "We appreciate our consignors and buyers sticking with us through this tough summer, and we look forward to having a successful Select Quarter Horse Yearling Sale August 30-31."

Over the two Quarter Horse sessions, 126 yearlings sold for $4,910,700, a 16% increase over the 148 sold last year. The median $17,500 was a 13% increase over 2023's $15,500. Seventeen horses were not sold for an RNA of 12%

Larry Kevin Marcum paid $320,000 for the sale-topper, Hip 228 MW Daddy Done It. Twisted M Ranch consigned the Big Daddy Cartel colt out of RG2-placed Wish You Had One To by Stel Corona. MW Daddy Done It is a half-sibling to six black-type, including New Mexican Spring Futurity(RG2) winner Jesses Wish.

Hip 174, Luxurie, was the second high-seller at $300,000 for leading consignor MJ Farms. Rancho El 48, LLC signed a $300,000 ticket for the Big Daddy Cartel gelding out of champion filly Astica. The yearling is a half-sibling to six black-type, including Los Alamitos Oaks(G1) winner Asscher.

Also consigned by MJ Farms, Saturday's third high-seller, Hip 197 On Da Ledge, was a $250,000 gelding by Big Daddy Cartel from the Grade 2 winning Separatist mare Da Edge. Jimmy Barton purchased the half-brother to Shue Fly Stakes(RG2) winner Over Da Edge. The second dam is two-time champion mare Deelish.

Rancho El 48 LLC was the sale's leading buyer, with two purchases totaling $490,000. Tod and Gene Bradley paid $343,00 for four yearlings, and Larry Kevin Marcum had the one for $320,000.

MJ Farms, Agent led all consignors and/or agents with 28 yearlings for gross receipts of $2,304,500. La Feliz Montana Ranch LLC sold 11 head for $415,000, and Twisted M Ranch had four head gross of $415,000.

Big Daddy Cartel was the leading sale sire (by average, two or more sold), with 37 yearlings averaging $68,473. Woodbridge had a five-yearling average of $54,600, and Eye Am King sold 20 yearlings for a $48,400 average.

B Cause Im A Hero was the leading first sale-crop sire with two yearlings averaging $11,000.
