Median and Average Rise With QHRAI Yearling Speed Sale New Virtual Format

SHELBYVILLE, IN–SEPTEMBER 16, 2024–The 2024 QHRAI Yearling Speed Sale dramatically rose in average and median for its just completed 13th annual sale.

This year saw a new virtual online bidding format powered by DV Auctions from September 9 through 15. The sale catalog, with photos and videos of yearlings selling, can be found on the association's website, indianaquarterhorseracing.com/horses_for_sale.asp.

QHRAI reported that the average for the sale was $11,617, a 33% increase compared to $8,715 in 2023. Gross receipts of $149,400 were reported on the 12 horses sold. The median average of $9,450 was a 40% increase compared to $6,750 in 2023.

Twenty-nine horses failed to meet their reserve; however, for horses to be eligible for the 2025 $50,000-added Leader Of The Class Futurity, they must pass through the sale.

Bris Alia Ventura purchased the sale-topper, Hip 9 HH Shakem Cate, a filly by leading Indiana sire Escondido Beach, for $25,600. Larry Carter and John Myers consigned the full sister to multiple stakes winner HH C J Shake.

Mark Myers sold the second high-seller, Hip 30 Ima Dashin Cartel, for $23,100 to Claudio Barraza. The gelding by two-time champion Tell Cartel is out of the One Dashing Eagle mare Ramblin Eagle. The second dam is champion filly Ima Ramblin Girl.

Buddy Presley paid $15,000 for the third high-seller, Hip 35 I Stoli Yo Ferrari, a gelding by Escondido Beach from the Stoli mare La Ferrari. This is the family of Grade 3 winner A Down Right Runaway.

Bris Alia Ventura, Claudio Barraza, and Buddy Presley were also the top three buyers, with one purchase each.

Mark Myers was the leading consignor or agent, with two yearlings grossing $37,100. Larry Carter and John Myers had the one for $25,600, and Stony Meadows Farm was paid $17,600 for two yearlings.

Escondido Beach was the leading sale sire (by average with two or more sold), with two yearlings averaging $20,300. Jess Zoomin had two for an $11,050 average, and Jess Being Valiant sold two for a $7,350 average.
