OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–SEPTEMBER 19, 2024–It was a hot day in Oklahoma to kick off the 2024 Quarter Horse Yearling Sale today (Thursday), but just like the champions Heritage Place sells, its customers showed up in full force.
"Day 1 had a high seller of $235,000 and 10 head selling for $100,000 or more. The average on horses sold today was $32,041 which is 9% less than day one of 2023 and 87% of the horses offered were marked sold," Heritage Place General Manager Spence Kidney said last Thursday."Our consignors have sent an outstanding group of yearlings for this years' sale and look forward to what the next two days have to offer.

Heritage Place Sale Company reported 211 of the 245 horses offered in session one sold for gross receipts of $6,760,700 for an average of $32,041 and median of $22,000.
Tod and Gene Bradley paid $235,000 for the session one sale-topper, Hip 220 She Knows It. Gentry Farms consigned the Tempting Dash filly from Heartbeat by Tres Seis. The opening day sale-topper is a half-sister to three black type including last year's champion 3-year-old filly Fearless Moon.
Red River Equine, Agent for McColee Land & Livestock LLC sold Thursday second high-seller, Hip 270 Favorite Water Hole, for $190,000. Lova Letti signed the ticket for the Favorite Cartel colt out of multiple stakes-producing First Down Dash mare Aquafina, a sister to world champion Wave Carver and champion Ocean Runaway.
Jerry Chapman and Bill Doenz paid $140,000 for Thursdays third high-seller, Hip 136 Eyes Political. Marty Powers, Agent for Flag Ranch LLC, consigned the Apollitical Jess half-brother to four black type including West Texas Futurity(G2) winner Suze Returns. Brown Eye Suze, by Mr Eye Opener, is the dam.
Tod and Gene Bradley were the opening leading buyer with the one purchase for $235,000. Tabasco Racing LLC paid $204,500 for five head and Lova Letti had two purchases totaling $204,000.
Marty Powers, Agent for Flag Ranch LLC was the leading consignor or agent on day 1 with six head grossing $471,000. Lazy E Ranch LLC, Agent sold 15 head for $465,500 and Red River Equine, Agent for McColee Land & Livestock LLC had six yearling total $419,000.
Favorite Cartel was the leading sire (by average with two or more sold) in session one with six head averaging $85,833. Tempting Dash had six for an $81,000 average and Apollitical Jess sold nine for a $72,889 average. Dulce Sin Tacha was the first sale-crop sire leader with 13 yearlings averaging $29,923.

Session 2, on Friday (Sept 20), will begin promptly at 10 a.m. (CDT) with one breeding each to leading sires Kiss My Hocks and Flying Cowboy 123, selling to benefit the Ruidoso Racing Foundation. The yearling sale begins immediately following those two lots with Hip 305 and continues through Hip 608.
The Oklahoma Quarter Horse Racing Association (OQHRA) will host a reception Friday evening in the Restaurant and Club immediately following the sale. Genevieve Frances Baily will provide live music.
Session 3 on Saturday (Sept 21) will begin promptly at 10 a.m. (CDT) with one breeding each to champions Uncle D and Dulce Sin Tacha, selling to benefit the Ruidoso Racing Foundation. The yearling sale begins immediately following those two lots with Hip 609 and continues through Hip 911.
Heritage Place offers online bidding, and horsemen and women who can't attend can view the sale live through an online webcast. Prospective online bidders must have registered by Tuesday, September 17.
