KINDER, LA—JULY 31, 2026—The opening session of the 2026 LQHBA Yearling Sale produced solid results Friday at the Coushatta Casino Resort in Kinder, highlighted by a higher gross, average, and median despite offering and selling fewer yearlings than the first session one year ago.

Through the first 212 hips offered, 169 yearlings sold for a gross of $3,111,000, an increase of 3.4 percent over the opening-day gross of $3,008,200 in 2025. The average price climbed 22.4 percent to $18,408, while the median jumped 34.9 percent to $14,500.

"We're extremely pleased with the way buyers responded during today's session," said LQHBA Executive Director Misty Coats. "The increases in both the average and median prices are very encouraging and reflect the continued confidence breeders and buyers have in the Louisiana-bred Quarter Horse program. We appreciate the tremendous support from everyone who participated today and look forward to another strong session tomorrow."

Heading the opening day's sale was Hip 96, Gunzzablazzin, a colt by world champion sire Freighttrain B out of Rogue One, by Heza Fast Dash, who sold for $90,000. Consigned by Robicheaux Ranch Inc., Agent for Rogue Equine LLC, the colt was purchased by Jerry Deville Jr. The colt is a half-brother to LQHBA Louisiana Million Futurity (RG1) runner-up Jedi James.

The day's second-highest seller was Hip 54, Gold MVP Z, a colt by multiple stakes sire Gold Heart Eagle V from the Valiant Hero mare Ms Valiant Perry. Consigned by Robicheaux Ranch Inc., Agent for Slash Z Quarter Horses, the colt brought $80,000 from Jude Robicheaux. Gold MVP Z is a half-brother to Mardi Gras Futurity(RG2) winner San Lorenzo Blood.

Rounding out the top three was Hip 191, Power House Train, a colt by Freighttrain B out of Newport Lily, by Stoli. Consigned by S & E Sales Prepping LLC, Agent for Harold Gus Jeanotte, he sold for $70,000 to Jerry Deville Jr. The colt is a half-brother to six black-type, including Speedhorse Futurity (G2) winner Hiclass Vodka.

Jerry Deville Jr. led all buyers during the opening session, purchasing seven yearlings for $318,000. Lil Dog Racing Inc. ranked second with four purchases totaling $158,000, while LA Racing Stables acquired five yearlings for $123,500.

Among consignors and agents, Robicheaux Ranch Inc., Agent, topped the standings after selling 16 yearlings for $500,000. Grant Farms LLC was second with 11 yearlings bringing $275,500, and Tate Farms LLC, Agent, sold 13 for $167,400.

By average price among sires with two or more yearlings sold, Gold Heart Eagle V led the way with five yearlings averaging $35,700. Kvn Corona followed with 21 sold, averaging $33,190, while Freighttrain B also had 21 yearlings, averaging $32,762.

Among first-crop sires with at least two yearlings sold, Dasha Good Reason topped the list with seven yearlings averaging $14,000.

The 2026 LQHBA Yearling Sale concludes Saturday, with Hips 230 through 457 scheduled to pass through the sale ring. The final session begins at 10:00 a.m.
