RUIDOSO, NM–JUNE 4, 2023–Coming off a win in the restricted Grade 3 Jimmy Drake Stakes at SunRay Park April 28, Big Crush Bb got his second consecutive stakes victory in the $45,000 Jess Burner Stakes on Sunday, a 400 yard event for state-bred 4-year-olds and up at Ruidoso Downs.
Under jockey Emilio Tapia, Big Crush Bb led wire-to-wire in his 1-1/4 length victory. The son of leading New Mexico sire Big Daddy Cartel stopped the clock in the :19.292 seconds equaling a 103 speed with an 8 mph tailwind.
Jose DeHerrera conditions the 4-year-old colt for owner Javier Chavez. Bred by Ralph Vincent and Beverly Bourguet, from the One Famous Eagle mare Eagles First Down, Big Crush Bb has compiled a (17) 5-2-2 record. Today's winner's purse valued at $27,000 boosted his lifetime earnings total to $172,460.
Surprising let go by the bettng public at 12-1 Big Cruh Bb rewarded backers with a $25.60 win payoff.
Runner-up Hunky McGoo earned $9,000 for owner-breeders William and Mary Robertson. Marc Jungers named jockey Christian Ramos to ride the Big Daddy Cartel 4-year-old from the Heza Fast Dash mare Physical Touch. The multiple graded stakes-placed gelding had banked $134,872.
Diezs Daylight, under jockey Mario Delgado, finished half-a-length back to earn $4,500 for third. Owned-and-trained by Jamie Aldavaz, Sr., Diezs Daylight is a graded stakes winning son of multiple stakes sire Jesse James Jr from the Brimmerton mare Diez Tambien. The Mesilla Valley Speed Handicap(RG3) winner has earned $159,964. Max Fraze is the breeder.
Completing the official order of finish was post time favorite River Flash fourth, followed by No Mires A La Luna, The Calling, Winners Miracle, Mr Perry Moon, Jesses Dinero and Fly On Down.
Racing continues next weekend at Ruidoso Downs highlighted by the running of the $1 million Ruidoso Futurity and $900,000 (est) Ruidoso Derby. Post time will be 1 p.m. (MDT) next Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
