BELCOURT, ND—JUNE 4, 2023—Dcr C Nor Doubtfire broke his maiden on Sunday while setting the fastest qualifying time for the $20,000 Guaranteed Northern Plains Futurity at Chippewa Downs in Belcourt, North Dakota.
Under jockey Eric Calzada, Dcr C Nor Doubtfire dueled early to defeat Bodacious Trickster by a neck in the second trial. The son of Fire Breathing Wagon clocked :16.683 seconds on a muddy track to get the top qualifying time after a downpour postponed the pastime of Race 3.
Amanda Haar conditions the brown colt for herself and Benjamin Villegas. Also bred by Haar, from the Its Royal Time mare Madam Doubtfire, Dcr C Nor Doubtfire entered the trials off a third-place finish in her career debut at Miles City May 6.
Second-place finisher Bodacious Trickster, under jockey T.P. Tarasenco, held on to the second fastest clocking of :16.72 seconds. Trainer Blaine Decoteau saddled the son of multiple stakes sire Bodacious Dash for owner Dennis Shipman. Bobby Simmons bred the colt from the Favorite Trick (TB) mare Tricks On The Side.
Mrs Ramblin Win was a half-length winner in the opening trial over a dry fast racecourse to get the third fastest time of :16.786 seconds. Trainer Lacy Deshazo named jockey Uriel Cervantes to ride the daughter of multiple stakes sire Ima Ramblin On.
Cole Wilson owns the first time starter out of Ms Veronica by Mighty Invictus. Leon Glasser is the breeder.
The eight fastest qualifiers from the two trial races will return to Chippewa Downs on Sunday, June 18th to vie for the winner's share of the $20,000 purse going 350 yards.
