Sundancin Kid Leads Gate-To-Wire For The Win In The $21,750 Wyoming Bred Classic Stakes

GILLETTE, WY–JUNE 28, 2024–Post-time favorite Sundancin Kid scores his first win of the season in the $21,750 Wyoming Bred Classic Stakes at Energy Downs 307 Horse Racing on Friday afternoon.

Sundancin Kid was last to load but first to break from the gates. Ridden by Jesus Valenzuela, the son of Pappasito broke to the outside, going right into the lead for a 1 1/4-length wire-to-wire victory over Malena. Sundancin Kid clocked a 97 speed index in 20.003 seconds, and the 400-yard victory paid $3.60 to win on 4/5 odds.

Trained by Kylie Valenzuela, Sundancin Kid has six career wins from 14 starts and the $10,875 check from the Wyoming Bred Classic boosted his earnings to $112,079. The four-year-old gelding won the Wyoming Downs Derby and Rock Springs Futurity earlier in his career. He was also a finalist in the Rock Springs Wyoming Bred Derby, Ron Cook Wyoming Bred Futurity and Ron Moosman Memorial Stakes.

Jim Nebeker bred Sundancin Kid in Wyoming out of Josie Bassett by Maknmoves. Chris Nebeker owns him.

Runner-up Malena chased Sundancin Kid from the wire for second under the guidance of Jacob Cardenas. The five-year-old mare out, bred and owned by Pedro Mena, has three career wins with $16,805 in the bank. Rodney Nielsen saddled the daughter of Dashin Mr Jess.

Jockey Valente Vorrath piloted Yo Brindis Delite to his third-place finish. The son of Brindis Por Cayenne has a record of 4-4-4 from 26 starts with $48,497 in earnings. Gerald Kaul bred the five-year-old gelding out of Rs Afternoon Delite by Southern Corona. He is owned and trained by Benjamin Villegas.

Cd Fantasy wagon, Eyesa Special Gunner, Yo Fifty Yard Dash and Diamond Dustin complete the order of finish.
