SELMA, TX–JUNE 29, 2024–Multiple stakes winner Rgs Gold Wagon jumped out to a quick start and then drew off to win the Grade 3 $60,000 King William Stakes presented by Lip Chip Saturday night at Retama Park.
Ridden by jockey Edgar Mata, Rgs Gold Wagon completed the 350 yards in 17.843 seconds, equaling a 91-speed index into a 14 mph headwind. The three-quarter length victory was the eighth career win in 27 starts for the 4-year-old son of Prized Wagon.
Saddled by trainer Roy Garza, Rgs Gold Wagon races for owner Mauricio Garza. Roy also bred the gelding in Oklahoma from the Gol mare Ja Gols Debutante. The $40,860 winner's purse boosted Rgs Gold Wagons earnings total to $383,451.
Rgs Gold Wagon won the EVD Futurity(G3) at 2 and the Jack Brooks Stakes(G3) at 3.
Runner-up Shakers No Secret bumped at the start but put in a good bid to second under jockey Jose Alvarez. Marc Jungers conditions the 4-year-old Five Bar Cartel gelding for owners Abel Lopez, Ethan Lopez, and Manny Dutchover. Garlyn Shelton bred the gray gelding in Texas from the No Secrets Here mare Shaker Secret. Also a graded stakes winner, Shakers No Secret has earned $281,031.
Defours, a multiple stakes-placed son of leading sire Hes Relentless, finished a head back to earn $7,491 for third. Trainer Zackary Stinebaugh named jockey Edwin Escobedo to ride the 4-yare-old for himself and co-owner LCE Cattle Co. Dallas Pryor bred the $106,555 earners in Oklahoma from the Carters Cartel mare Carters Signature.
Ls Jacks Back, Uncle Eds Idea, San Lorenzo Ivory, Volcash, Dodge City and A Secret Life completed the field.
