Stakes Winner Im Rip Gets Fourth Career Win, Sets Top Mark in the NDQHRA Futurity Trials

FARGO, ND–JULY 20, 2024–Recent Rusty Wilson Memorial Futurity winner Im Rip raced to his third consecutive win on Saturday when he posted the fastest qualifying time for the NDQHRA Futurity at the North Dakota Horse Park in Fargo.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to the "horse park" on Sunday, August 4, to vie for the winner's share of a $25,000-est. purse going a distance of 350 yards.

Im Rip got away well in the second trial under jockey Dakota Wood, then drew off to win by 1-3/4 lengths. The son of second-crop sire Rip Tide completed the 350-yard task in 18.013 seconds, equaling a 95-speed index into a 5 mph crosswind.

Trainer Francisco Estrada saddled the brown gelding to his fourth win in five starts for owner-breeder Tyrell R. Moody.  Bred from the Cowboys Cartel mare Cowboywannab, Im Rip has earned over $15,000 this season.  His only loss came in a very troubled effort in the $58,000 BHS Futurity at Miles City on May 19.

Ms Dakota Lights was a 1-1/2 length winner in the opening trial to get the second fastest clocking of 18.143 seconds, a 91-speed index into a 5 mph crosswind. Starting off a $20,000 maiden-claiming win in her career debut at Remington Park on June 1, Ms Dakota Lights is now 2-for-2 and has earned $11,509.

Trainer Mallory Norton named jockey Oscar Jaquez to ride the North Dakota homebred for owner-breeder Leon Glasser. Ms. Dakota Lights is by multiple stakes sire The Marfa Lights from the Mighty Invictus mare Ms. Veronica.
