Wl You Aint No Cowboy Scores First Stakes Victory In $23,000 G.C.F.A Maturity

FREDERICKSBURG, TX–JULY 20, 2024–Wl You Aint No Cowboy gets his first stakes win after making a perfect trip to the wire for the upset over post-time favorite Wl Van Halen in the $23,000 G.C.F.A Maturity Stakes at Gillespie County Fair on Saturday.

Oscar Andrade Jr got the mount aboard Wl You Aint No Cowboy for the wire-to-wire victory in :17.741 seconds. The son of Painted Turnpike clocked a 91 speed index with a seven mph crosswind. The longshot's 350-yard win paid $14.40 on 6.20 odds.

2022 APHA champion Wl Van Halen, ridden by Nestor Duran, duel in second just behind Wl You Aint No Cowboy the entire trip, missing by a neck for second. Wl Trapwire and jockey Froylan Ramirez finish in third two lengths behind.

Zackery Rios saddled both Wl You Aint No Cowboy and Wl Trapwire.

Wl You Aint No Cowboy's career earnings improve to $64,034 after cashing in the $10,283 winner's share of the Maturity purse. The three-time winner earned #1 APHA Honor Roll Gelding honors in 2023, placing second in the Don Drake Memorial [G3] and third in the Colors Of Houston Derby [G2], Henry Memorial Stakes. He also placed second in the Tulsa State Fair Stakes in 2022 and has been a stakes finalist five other times over the years.

Charles Leggett bred the four-year-old gelding sired by #1 leading APHA CRM Livewire in Oklahoma out of Texas Fourwinds by Texas Hero.

Runner-up Wl Van Halen has lit the board 15 of 19 starts with nine victories, five in stakes competition, and $142,148 in earnings. Trainer Gilberto Gonzalez trains the four-year-old Oklahoma-bred gelding for owner Guerras Racing Stables. Charles Leggett bred the son of MHM Hotwire out of Cl trap Queen by Sf Royal Quick Dash.

Wl Trapwire has two wins and $22,007 in the bank for owner James Clarence Gerow, II. Wade and Susan Leggett bred the multiple winning daughter of Mhm Hotwire in Oklahoma. The three-year-old filly is a full sister to Wl Van Halen.

Frenchy, Vp Gravel Pit Dancer and Kas Pecosa round out the order of finish.
