R Cowgirl Gets Seconds Stakes Victory This Season In The $19,420 Masterpiece Derby

TULSA, OK–JULY 20, 2024–Heavy favorite R Cowgirl doesn't disappoint with a wire-to-wire victory in the $19,420 Masterpiece Derby at Fair Meadows in Tulsa on Saturday.

Jockey Roman Cruz got the leg up aboard R Cowgirl for her neck victory over runner-up Wire Tap and rider L. Martinez. The daughter of Flying Cowboy 123 broke strongly on the inside and clocked a 94 speed index in :17.757 seconds. The 350-yard victory paid $3.20 to win on 3/5 odds.

Dee Keener saddled R Cowgirl for owner/breeder Jeff Adams of Oklahoma. The three-year-old filly has won eight of nine starts, including the Speedhorse Graham P&A Futurity [G1], Speedhorse Graham P&A Stakes Speedhorse P&A Futurity [G3] and Victoria Ennis Memorial. The $11,706 winner's share from the Masterpiece Derby boosted his career earnings to $199,729.

R Cowgirl was named Appaloosa Horse of the Year, Supreme Champion Two Year Old and Champion Two-Year-Old Filly in 2023 and seems to be on her way to more champion titles for 2024.

Matt Whitekiller conditions runner-up Wire Tap for owner/breeder Dan and Kaye Jones. The son of leading APHA sire CRM Livewire has four wins and three seconds from 12 starts with $51,177 in the bank, including the PSBA Paint Classic Stakes [G1] victory in April.

Wire Tap was bred in Oklahoma out of the Second Painted Sign mare Lindys Sign.

Cash Queen was ridden to third by Rolando Raudales. The son Appaloosa son of Hes Relentless has a record of 3-3-2 from 10 starts with $36,857 in career earnings. Trainer Jesus Ruiz saddles the Oklahoma-bred filly out of Ivory Queen by Ivory James for owner/breeder Gary Vaughan.

Storms Livewire, Pevs Wire To Wire and Tess The Wire complete the order of finish.
