Flying Wrangler Flies To The Finish For First Stakes Victory In The $17,425 Cherokee Nation Stakes

TULSA, OK–JULY 20, 2024–Flying Wrangler took the lead at second call to find more for the win by a neck in the $17,425 Cherokee Nation Stakes at Fair Meadows in Tulsa on Saturday.

Eugenio Navarrett, Jr. got the leg up aboard Flying Wrangler for the neck victory over Texas Rein and his rider Javier Hernandez-Gallardo. The duo clocked an 84 speed index with a seven mph crosswind in :18.098 seconds, which paid $8.40 for the 350-yard win on 3/1 odds. Krashin Lew, ridden by Ramiro Garcia, placed third.

Trainer Stacy Capps saddled Flying Wrangler for owner/breeder Dusty Rose Ranch, LLC. The son of leading second-year-sire Flying Cowboy 123 improved his wins to three from six starts, and the $10,230 earnings from the Cherokee Nation increased his bankroll to $94,151.

The Oklahoma-bred gelding out of Docs Dusty Dale by Okey Dokey Dale was a finalist in the Remington Park OK-Bred Futurity [G1] and Easy Jet Stakes [G3] earlier in the season.

Runner-up Texas Rein recently broke his maiden in his last out from three starts at Fair Meadows in June. The son of Im A Fancy Pyc has earned $19,855 for owner Laci Devereaux. Arthur Devereaux bred the Rhonda Levon Valdivai trained gelding in Oklahoma out of Sheza Painted Doll by Second Painted Sign.

Third-place finisher Krashin Lew has a record of 1-1-2 from six starts with $16,107 in the bank. Owner Diego Murrieta bought the son of Big Lew for $15,000 from breeder Bollenbach Farms LP in the 2023 Heritage Place Yearling Sale. He is out of Maghelene by One Famous Eagle.

Finn McOol, Fast N Sixy, Og Kissing Bandit, Billie Blue Girl, Makaylas Nme, Osage Josy and Executive Train round out the order of finish.
