Fun N Fire Stays Handily Wins $69,490 Speedhorse Derby Final at Fair Meadows

TULSA, OK–JULY 20, 2024–Fun N Fire scored his first career stakes victory on Saturday when he defeated Kams Relentless by 1-1/2 lengths in the $69,490 Speedhorse Derby at Fair Meadows Racetrack.

Ridden by jockey Mario Delgado, Fun N Fire covered the 350 yards in 17.439 seconds, equaling a 104-speed index with a 7 mph crosswind. The son of third-crop sire Pyc Fun N Fancy scored his fourth win in six career starts. The $26,406 winner's purse nearly doubled his bankroll to $56,238.

Jose Gamez trains the bay gelding for owner Mayela Valdez. Rito Sosa bred Fun N Fire in Oklahoma from the Walk Thru Fire mare Dolls In Fire. Fun N Fire was also a finalist in the Grade 2 Oklahoma Futurity at 2.

Runner-up Kams Relentless earned $11,813 for finishing second. Clinton Crawford trains the multiple graded stakes finalist for owners Judy Maze, Conda Maze, Raymond Whitmire and Lanie Whitmire. Roman Cruz rode the Hes Relentless gelding from the Cartel Candys Man mare Pv Queen Bee Cady. Gordon and Jackie Pevehouse are the breeders.

Fastest qualifier Rare Roy and jockey Rolando Raudales chased the top two to finish 1-1/2 lengths back for owner-breeder Ismael Quijada. Cosmo Quijada trains the Sean Roy colt out of Rare Martha by Especially Rare. The $7,644 third-place payday boosted Rare Roy's earnings to nearly $64,000.

Completing the field were Rider Stone, Prized Blue Wagon, Sticky Lou Who, Jc Wild Queen, Mr Chainblulightning, Sheza My Chick, and Bv Miss Mona.
