AJAX, ONT–JULY 20, 2024–Expediant stubbornly held off a fast closing Special Spice to post the fastest qualifying time for the Princess Derby on Sunday at Ajax Downs.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Ajax Downs on Wednesday, August 7, to vie for the winner's share of a $50,000 CAN-added purse going 350 yards.

Under jockey Carly Furlonger's capable hands, Expediant completed her task in 18.065 seconds, an 87-speed index. Trainer Scott Reid saddled the daughter of leading sire Favorite Cartel to her second career win in five starts at Ajax Downs.

John Wilson owns the Texas-bred filly out of the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Fast N Fancy, a sister to stakes winners and multiple stakes sires' Pyc Fun N Fancy and Im A Fancy Pyc.

Furlonger rode Rbybybaby to a half-length win in the opening trial, setting the third-fastest time of 18.079 seconds, also an 87-speed index. Also owned by Wilson and trained by Reid, Rbybybaby is a stakes-winning daughter of multiple stakes sire Hez Our Secret.

Bob and Deanna Williams bred the black filly in Washington state from the Mr Jess Perry mare Rmiss Perry. A winner of four of nine starts, Rbybybaby has earned $27,921.
