Trainer Jason Olmstead Qualifies Six to the Canterbury Park Derby, including Shes Sumoke Stacked

Trainer Jason Olmstead Qualifies Six to the Canterbury Park Derby, including Shes Sumoke Stacked

SHAKOPEE, MN–JULY 24, 2024–Trainer Jason Olmstead qualified six of the ten finalists to the $50,075 Canterbury Park Quarter Horse Derby on Wednesday, including the top three fastest times.

The fastest qualifier, Shes Sumoke Stacked, gets her second consecutive win this season at Canterbury Park while setting the time to beat from trial #1. She came on fast from the second call for a 1/2-length victory over Partylikearocstar, who clocked the third-fastest time in :20.247.

Ridden by Ramiro Garcia, Shes Sumoke Stacked clocked an 89 speed index in :20.157 seconds. The post-time favorite's 400-yard effort paid $3.60 to win on 4-5 odds.

Shes Sumoke Stacked has earned $34,547 for owner Tom Maher, who bought her for $40,000 in the 2022 Heritage Place Fall Mixed Sale. The daughter of Hes Relentless has three wins from 11 starts and was a finalist in the Black Gold Fillies Futurity at Will Rogers Downs last year.

Corner K Quarter Horses bred the gray filly out of the Country Chick Man stakes winning mare Sumokin, half-sister to Ruidoso Futurity [G1] winner Blue Corazon. Shes Sumoke Stacked is a half-sister to stakes winner JM Country Man.

Maher, Garcia, and Olmstead teamed up again in trial #2, with Shes Smoke Stacked's stablemate Relentless Robin scoring a length victory over heavy favorite Relentlessly Fast. The daughter of Hes Relentless clocked an 88 speed index in :20.196 seconds, for the second fastest time to the finals. The effort paid $5.40 to win on 8/5 odds.

Maher bred Relentless Robin in Oklahoma out of the Tres Seis mare Tritoon, a full sister to Grade 1 winners Lotta Blue Man and Tres Friends. Her second dam is AQHA Dam of Distinction Lotta Love For Robyn.

Partylikearocstar was piloted by Armando Alvidrez. Brenda Reiswig bred and owns the son of Valiant Hero in Oklahoma. The bay gelding out of Party Down South by Corona Cartel has earned $23,792.

Tom Maher owns four of the ten finalists, including Relentlessly Fast and Relentless Corona.
