Shiny Nova, ridden by Oscar Villa, wins the $22,000 Bitterroot Derby at Pocatello Downs on Friday.

POCATELLO, ID–JULY 26, 2024–Shiny Nova scores his fourth consecutive victory Friday night in the $22,000 Bitterroot Derby at Pocatello Downs.

After qualifying him in the trials, jockey Oscar Villa returns for the mount aboard Shiny Nova for an outstanding wire-to-wire victory in :20.102 seconds. The son of Racy Casanova clocked a 91 speed index, and the winning effort paid $6.00 on 2/1 odds.

Js Night Moves, ridden by Jesus Valenzuela, crossed the wire for second a neck ahead of Walking Thru and jockey Brayan Juarez, who ran a steady effort for third.

Shiny Nova won six of his ten starts, including the Bitterroot Futurity [G3] last year and the Bob Giltner Overnight Derby at Jerome in June of this year. The $8,800 winner's portion of the 400-yard Bitterroot Derby increased his earnings to $63,268.

J.P. Sample bred and owns Shiny Nova in Idaho out of the First To Shine mare Alltheshine. Martin Vega trains him.

Kylie Valenzuela conditions Js Night Moves for owner Kathy Daniels. The son of Winners Version has lit the board eight of ten starts with $34,633 in earnings, including first in the Energy Downs Bonus Challenge, second in the Idaho Cup Derby, and fourth in the Bitterroot Futurity [G3].

Jeffery Steadman bred Js Night Moves out of the Judgte Cash mare Judging Julie.

Walking Thru, who was second fastest qualifier in the trials, has three career wins and earnings of $31,159 for owner Miguel Camacho, including this year's Idaho Cup Derby. Edward and Von Zae McNelis bred the son of Bodacious Dash trained by Martin Vega out of Awesome Gift by Fire And Corona.

Kaleigh Mac, M E Ettago Relent, Mv First Down Glock, Chile Cartel, Carteljess Pyw, and Rtm My Turn complete the order of finish.
