NEW ORLEANS, LA–SEPTEMBER 13, 2024–San Lorenzo Hustle bounced off a fourth-place finish in the August 23 trials to score a neck victory in the 2nd running of the $114,390 Big Easy Futurity on Friday at Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans.

Under jockey Martin Osuna San Lorenzo Hustle jumped to a quick lead then held off a late charge by Seis No More while completing the 350 yards in 17.487 seconds, a 96-speed index into a 12 mph crosswind

Trainer Jeremy Derozin saddled the son of first-crop sire American Hustle to his second career win in six starts for owner-breeder Rogelio Marquez, Jr. Runner-up in the Lee Berwick Futurity(RG1) and third in the Laddie Futurity(RG2) at Delta last summer, San Lorenzo Hustle earned $57,195 to bring his bankroll total to $205,991.

"I'm so proud of this horse," Marquez, Jr. said. "After the Lee Berwick Futurity (in which he ran second), we gave him a break. He was not eligible for the Sale Futurity, but we felt he was ready to compete, so we entered him in a trial for the Big Easy. He ran his heart out and it meant a lot for us to see him run so well in this final. The Big Easy Futurity opened doors for us and next up for San Lorenzo Hustle will be trials for the LQHBA Louisiana Million."

San Lorenzo Hustle is a half-brother to multiple graded stakes winner One Sweet Sugar, who has earned $620,870 to 3, 2024.
