ROCK VIEW COUNTY, ALB–OCTOBER 20, 2024–After a photo finish at the wire, Sizzles Boss won the nod over Flash Me A Corona in the $47,242 Alberta Bred Futurity [G3] at Century Downs Racetrack on Sunday afternoon.
Trainer Buckey Stockwell named jockey O. Hernandez to pilot Sizzles Boss in the 350-yard stakes. After breaking in the middle of the pack, the son of Jd Wagon Boss surged at the final stretch for a head victory in 18.066 seconds.
The post-time favorite clocked an 82-speed index against a firm 30 mph headwind, and the win paid $2.90 on 2/5 odds.
After a bump at the gates, Flash Me A Corona, ridden by J. Botello, rallied up to the finish line from a sixth-place start but lost the bob at the wire for second. He crossed the line a head over Rjs Boss and jockey D. Benitez, who placed third.
Sizzles Boss scored his fourth career win in the Futurity from six starts, which paid $21,475 to the winner and boosted his career totals to $48,178. He won the Sales Stakes Futurity at Century Mile and placed fourth in the Century Mile Juvenile Challenge Stakes.
Cinch Up Syndicate's owners purchased Sizzles Boss for $11,500 in last year's AQHRA Yearling Mixed Sale from breeder Glenn Willis. He is out of the Sizzlin Red Corona mare Northfork Sizzle.
Craig Smith conditions runner-up Flash Me A Corona for owners Janet Patriquin and Ralph Danard. The son of Obsessed With Corona has lit the board seven of eight starts with one win and $25,954 in the bank. He placed third in the Sales Stakes Futurity and Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity and was a finalist in the Canada QH Cup Futurity [G3]. Danard bred the brown gelding out of Look Back Moonflash by First Moonflash.
Stockwell also trained Rjs Boss for owner Colton Wills. The brown colt sired by Jd Wagon Boss has a record of 1-4-1 from eight starts with $27,070 in earnings. He was bred by T. Copithorn and G. Wills out of Rj Bitterroot Babe by El Mistral.
Hold On Boxx, Ima Hott Version, Surely Im Corona, O La Dee Da, First Gold Dash, and Miss Banks round out the order of finish.
