AURORA, CO—OCTOBER 20, 2024—On Sunday, multiple stakes finalist Presido Pete was much the best when he won the second of three trials for the Colorado-bred Lucille Rowe Derby by 1-1/4 lengths, setting the fastest qualifying time at Arapahoe Park.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to the Denver, Colorado, area racetrack on Sunday, November 10, to vie for the winner's share of a $50,000-est. purse going a distance of 350 yards.

Presido Pete, under jockey Fernando Fonseca-Solto, completed the 350-yard task in 17.908 seconds, equaling a 95-speed index into a 9 mph headwind. It was the fourth win in 15 career starts for the son of second-crop sire The Marfa Lights.

Trainer Haley Hobbs conditions the Colorado homebred for owner Francisco J. Cornejo. Bred from the Wave Carver mare Tahiti Wave, Presido Pete was a finalist in the Rockey Mountain Derby and the Canterbury Park Derby this year and the Valley Junction Juvenile at 2.  He has earned $38,190.

Bally's Arapahoe Park in Aurora, Colorado, began its live race meet on Friday, September 6, and will continue through Sunday, November 10. The Colorado meet's race days are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with a 1:00 p.m. (MT) post time. The schedule is subject to change.
