Jess Winnin Cartel Up In Final Jump To Win Leverne Perry Stakes

OPELOUSAS, LA –DECEMBER 21, 2024–Jes Winnin Cartel picked up her second career stakes on Evangeline Downs closing night Saturday when she got up in the final jump to defeat Tf Jess A Eagle by a head in the $35,000 Leverne Perry Stakes. India de La Nieve finished a nose back in the blanket finish to get third.

Ridden by jockey Ubaldo Luna, Jess Winnin Cartel completed the 250 yards in 13.330 seconds, equaling an 88-speed index with a 6 mph tailwind. The daughter of multiple stakes sire Five Bar Cartel earned $21,000 for the win to boost her earnings to $142,945.

The 4-year-old filly won the Audubon Stakes at Fair Grounds in her last start on August 17 at Fair Grounds Race Course. Noe Sanchez III conditions Jes Winnin Cartel for owner San Juana Montano. Mars Racing and Robicheaux Ranch Inc. bred the filly from the Mr Jess Perry mare Jes Winnin.

Runner-up Tf Jess A Eagle showed early speed under jockey Rodrigo Vallejo but was caught at the wire and earned $7,000 for second. Guadalupe Tristan trains the stakes-winning One Dashing Eagle gelding for owners Jose Rodriguez and JC Racing Stables, LLC. Tate Farms bred the $90,720 earner from Tf Jess A Runaway by Sir Runaway Dash.

India de La Nieve was a game third under jockey Jorge Garcia to earn $3,850 for owner Rene Adan Rodriguez. Luis Martinez conditions the Bp Wagon Train filly out of Chita Deniebe by First Streakin Lee. Jose  Vera and Claudia Sanchez bred the graded stakes-placed earner of $115,557.

Kp Paintmeasymphony, Geaux Party Geaux, Goat Wagon, Onemorewildtrain, Jrs Corona Toast, and Grand Feature completed the field. Bonafyde scratched.

This race is named in honor of LQHBA Hall of Famer Leverne Perry, Executive Director of the LQHBA from 1987 through 2013. The LQHBA  flourished into the richest state-bred program in the nation with significant gains in purse money and breeder incentives for mares and stallions of accredited Louisiana breds under his direction.
