PHOENIX, AZ—DECEMBER 28, 2024—Tina Katarina got her first stakes win today at 12-1 odds when she got up at the wire over Rockin Jo Kool in the $40,000 Mike Hastings Memorial Stakes at Turf Paradise.
Tina Katarina broke in and bumped at the start under jockey Daniel Torres but finished strong to complete the 350 yards in 17.611 seconds, equaling a 95-speed index. It was the fifth career in 28 starts for the 6-year-old daughter of champion First Moonflash.
Conditioned by trainer Fernando Carrete for owner Edilberto Estrada Cano, Tina Katarina picked up $23,600 to boost her bankroll earnings to $133,176.
Bred in New Mexico by Joyce Erickson, from the Heza Motor Scooter mare Catch This Scooter, Tina Katrina was third in the Lou Wooten and Sydney Valentini Stakes (RG3) last season.

Runner-up Rockin Jo Kool bumped late under jockey Luis Valenzuela but dueled last to pick up $7,600 for third. Angel Valenzuela owns and trains the Kool Wagon mare out of Solid Anita Jo by Rock Solid Jess. Rockin J Running Horses bred the 5-year-old in Texas. She has earned $74,457.
Multiple stakes winner Wicked Cowgirl Smart finished a head back under jockey Mark Jasso to earn $4,000 third. David Williams trains the Arizona-bred daughter of leading second-crop sire Flying Cowboy 123 for owner-breeder J Lazy Six Racing. Out of the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Df I Aint Jo Wagon won the AQRA Presidents Open Spring Derby this year and the Fred Scane Stakes at Los Alamitos at 2. She has earned $103,467 in 12 starts.
Cartel N Sass, Hot Girl Summer B, Fervents Spirit, Makin Chicks Move, Jessaprimadonna, and Imm Sizzlin Ivory completed the field.
