OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–MARCH 22, 2025–Cancel Culture emerged victorious on Saturday night, achieving an upset in the $35,000 Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Juvenile at Remington Park.
After finishing third in the trials, Cancel Culture qualified with the ninth-fastest time to the finals. The daughter of Painted Turnpike turned her time around in the finals, taking the lead at first call and keeping it to the wire.
Piloted by Roman Cruz, Cancel Culture clocked an 87-speed index in 15.590 seconds for the win against a 15 mph headwind. The longshots 300-yard victory paid $26.60 to win on 12-1 odds.
Cancel Culture defeated post-time favorite Wired Cartel, ridden by Cordarelton Benn, by a neck. Mamasletthembecowboys, with Gonzalo Gutierrez in the irons, made a strong bid for the wire but was outfinished for third.
Cancel Culture has one win and one third from two starts and the $13,300 winner’s share of the purse increased her earnings to $13,930. Dee Keener saddled the two-year-old paint filly for owner 918 Bloodstock.
Wendy Ingersoll bred Cancel Culture in Oklahoma out of the Country Quick Dash mare Quick Caydee.
Leading trainer Matt Whitekiller bred and conditioned Wired Cartel for owner James R. Skimbo. The son of leading paint sire CRM Livewire has yet to win a race from his first two starts.
Wired Cartel placed second in his trial heat and qualified with the fifth fastest time. The runner-up has $7,096 in the bank after earning $5,950 for second place in the finals. He is out of the Favorite Cartel mare, Judys Cartel.
Trainer Kasey Willis saddled third-placed finisher Mamasletthembecowboys for owners-breeders Mark and Lori Dolan. The son of Flying Cowboy 123 has one second and one third from two starts with $4,978 in the bank.
Mamasletthembecowboys was bred in Oklahoma out of Aguascalientes by Awesome Chrome.
Big Poppy, Harlees Story, Turnpike Bandit, Pt Glitz, A Swift Grip, Og Sin City, and Speedy Molly round out the order of finish.
