Trainer Rene Gomez Stablemates Score Top Two Best Times to the Mexico Derby

MEXICO CITY, MEX–MARCH 25, 2025–Three trials were held for 25 sophomores on March 16 at the Hipodromo de las Americas in Mexico City. Trained by Liderme Rene Gomez, Princesa Bury was the star of the show, clocking the fastest qualifying time to the Mexico Derby. The finals are to be completed on March 30.

Ridden by Alejandro Gomez, Princesa Bury broke second from the gates but quickly gained the lead to win her trial heat. She showed valiant strength, winning by 1 3/4-lengths over Dk Golden Lady, clocking an 85-speed index in 15.348 seconds. The 300-yard victory paid $1.90 to win on even odds.

Owned by Cuadra Guillen, Princesa Bury was recognized as the Mexican Champion Two-Year-Old Filly in 2024 at the Hipodromo de las Americas. She earned the title after winning two stakes times last year.

In October, Princesa Bury won the Mexico Breeders Futurity Challenge. Then, after securing a spot in the Mexican Bred Futurity last December with the fastest qualifying time, the daughter of Danny Cartel returned to the finals for another victory.

Princesa Bury is out of the One Dashing Eagle mare Princesa Bury Buu. Bred by Armando Leon Bejarano, Cuardra Guillen purchased her for $29,132 in the 2023 Mexico Select Yearling Sale.

Princesa Bury’s stablemate As Easy Jet Princes, won the very next trial heat for the second fastest qualifier time in 15.464 seconds. Also piloted by Alejandro Gomez, the bay filly qualified for her first stakes finals in the Mexico Derby trials.

The daughter of Red Storm Cat defeated Stoli The Corona by 3/4-length for an 81-speed index. As Easy Jet Princes’ winning effort paid $3.10 on 11-10 odds.

Gomez saddled As Easy Jet Princes for owner La Tonka. Luis A Vazquez bred the three-year-old filly out of Azalways Cajun by Cajun Luck.
