LEXINGTON, KY–MARCH 25, 2025–Post-time favorite Pk Pure Rogue wins the nod over Torpedo and C The Power after a three-way photo finish by a nose in the $60,000 BOCO Overnight Stakes at Sandy Ridge at The Red Mile on Tuesday.
Jockey Juan Marquez got the call aboard Pk Pure Rogue. The duo crossed the wire in 15.489 seconds, clocking a 95-speed index. The favorite’s 300-yard victory paid $4.78 to win on a $2.00 ticket.
Torpedo, ridden by Leonardo Rodriguez, led the pack into the final stretch but was nailed at the wire for second. C The Power, piloted by Noe Castaneda, who was right on Pk Pure Rogue and Torpedo’s tails, kept on but was edged out at the wire for third.
The BOCO was Pk Pure Rogue’s first out of the season and fourth career stakes win. The $36,000 winner’s share of the purse boosted his lifetime earnings to $248,635. He has lit the board 18 of 27 starts with nine wins, including the Vals Fortunes Stakes [G2], Louisiana Classic Stakes [G2] and Opelousas Stakes [G3] last year.
Trainer Luis Martinez saddled Pk Pure Rogue for owner Jose Rodriguez, who purchased him for $9,200 at the 2021 LQHBA Yearling Sale. Phatt Kat Ranch bred the five-year-old son of Heza Fast Rogue in Louisiana.
Pk Pure Rogue is out of the Oklahoma Bred Futurity-G3 runner-up Kinky Boots by Agouti. His dam is a half-sister to multiple stakes winners, including Grade 1 Rainbow Derby winner Houdini.
Bobby D. Cox bred runner-up Torpedo, who was bred in Louisiana out of the Corona Cartel mare Aquachick. The $16,000 LQHBA Yearling Sale graduate has a record of 3-3-2 from 11 starts and has earned $75,455.
Teddy Guy, Jr, conditions the three-year-old son of Dominyun for owner Jeronimo Silva. Last year, he was a finalist in the Laddie Futurity [G2] and Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile Stakes [G2].
Juan Montoya owns and trains third-place finisher C The Power, a four-year-old son of Power Jam. Bred in Louisiana by Ken O’Brien, the three-time winner has earned $56,173 from 16 starts. He is out of the First Down Dash mare High Plains Prize.
Snow Moose, Kams Relentless, Ap Miss Lunas Tide, El Fulano, Ajk Forgive, Skyline Spirit, and Priddy Fabulous complete the order of finish.
