OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MARCH 27, 2025—It was the kind of night at Remington Park that only the character Jay Trotter from the movie "Let it Ride" could appreciate.
It seemed that way because one could probably have polled each bettor at the track and they couldn't have come up with the horse that was going to win these races. Then, Trotter would cross the fans' choices off as possible winners, and longshot after longshot would make their way to the winner's circle.
That pretty much described the atmosphere in Oklahoma City on a night of maiden races. The Jay Trotters of the world left here smiling and stashing cash in their shoes, shirts, and pants in overflowing fashion.
Five of the 10 races at Remington Park, all maiden events, were won by horses that were at least 7-1 on the toteboard. Four of them were boxcar winners with double-digit odds at post time.
The longest winners of the night came in the fourth, sixth, eighth and ninth races when Kaydees Eagle ($89 to win), Soar Eagle Soar ($31), Cynamon Toast Krunch ($39.60) and Famous Blind Date ($68.60) tasted victory at huge odds.
The winning jockeys, respectively, were Erik Esqueda, Cordarelton Benn, Bryan Candanosa and Francisco Calderon. Speaking of odds, who would have thought Calderon, Remington Park's leading rider, would score with a horse at 33-1 odds as he did aboard Famous Blind Date for trainer Kash Reed.
The gigantic payoffs keyed several amazing prices on the exotic wagers as well. It started in race four with Kaydees Eagle victorious. In that race, the top four in the superfecta went off at 43-1, 4-1, 2-1 and 22-1. That dime super returned $2,568.57.
The payoff was one of seven wagers that paid more than $1,000 on the night. The next one came from the fifth race where the Kaydees Eagle effect continued in the Pick 3 and Pick 4 payouts. The Pick 3 consisted of winners at odds of 7-2 in the third race, 43-1 in the fourth, and 3-1 in the fifth for a return of $2,389. The Pick 4, when you add in the second race winner at 3-5 odds-on, was worth $1,403.70.
The cavalcade of lifetime savings doublers continued in the ninth race with Famous Blind Date being the key at 33-1. The 50-cent trifecta in that race with the 2-1 favorite, High Flying Cowboy, in second and a 7-1 Rock Candy Dani in third paid off the backers nicely as the tri was $1,274.90. The superfecta, when you add the fourth horse Jesszees Girl at 7-2 odds, also was over a grand. That 10-cent super paid $1,031.03.
But wait. There's more! Two more lucrative bets came back with more numbers than most paychecks. In the 10th race, when Candanosa brought in his second winner of the night – BV Shotgun Kelly ($11.80) – the late Daily Double and last chance Pick 3 were worth enough to make a grown man cry. The late Double with Famous Blind Date leading the way in the first leg paid $1,084. The late Pick 3 was even better, checking in as the biggest woohoo from whoever was the one fan that cashed the ticket. The late Pick 3 included horses at these odds – 18-1, 33-1, and 9-2. The winner backed up a wheelbarrow and cashed for $4,084.90, the largest Pick 3 payout of the meet.
The winning trainers of the four longest dream horses of the night were Kaydees Eagle (Tammy Johnson), Soar Eagle Soar (Diego Meza), Cynamon Toast Krunch (Joe Davis) and Famous Blind Date (Kash Reed).
