Kr Cartels Calamity Slight Surprise, Breaks Maiden In $96,716 Beehive Futurity at Weber Downs Sunday

OGDEN, UT–APRIL 27, 2025–Bouncing off a third-place effort in the April 5 trials, Kr Cartels Calamity put in a big run midway to get his first victory in a blanket finish to the $96,716 Beehive Futurity at Weber Downs Sunday afternoon.

Jockey Cesar Moreno piloted the son of multiple stakes sire Five Bar Cartel to a nose win over Freedum.  Flashing Lights was a head back in third.

Conditioned by Abelardo Gonzalez, Kr Cartels Calamity completed the 300 yards in 15.418 seconds, equaling a 102 speed index with a 5 mph tailwind. It was the first win in two starts for the Luis Gonzales-owned colt.

Kidd Ranch bred the $12,000 Heritage Place September Yearling Sale graduate in Colorado from the Foose mare Kr Calamity. He earned $40,621 for today's winning effort.

Ruidoso Super Select Yearling Sale $25,000 repurchase Freedum earned $16,442 for second. Still a maiden from two starts, the daughter of multiple stakes sire Kvn Corona races for owner Gabriel Carballo and is trained by Sergio Canales.

Julian Zavala had the riding call aboard the royally bred filly from the First Down Dash mare Aquafina. McColee Land & Livestock LLC is the breeder.

Racing for owner-trainer Giovanni Ortiz, Flashing Lights earned $11,606 for third. Mino Arana rode the daughter of multiple stakes sire The Marfa Lights from the Teller Cartel mare Cara Cara. Pais Wixom bred Flashing Lights in Louisiana.

Hez Gifted, Shamrock S, Kissin N Memphis, You Got Litt Up, Jkh Almost Gone, Fire In The Whole, and Jr Calendar Girl completed the field.
