OGDEN, UT–MAY 10, 2025–In a significant effort under jockey Minor Arana, Fooseylady raced to a 2 3/4 length victory in her career debut to establish the fastest qualifying time to the Hadley/Giles Futurity at Weber Downs Saturday afternoon.
The 10 fastest qualifiers, from four trial races contested, will return to Weber Downs on Saturday, May 31, to vie for the winner's share of the $70,000-est. purse over a distance of 330 yards.
Under the tutelage of owner-trainer Roberto Ortiz, Fooseylady completed her task in 16.898 seconds, equaling a 92 speed index with a 7 mph tailwind. She earned $1,500 of the $3,000 trial purse for her first win.
Antonio Tinoco bred the Foose filly in Utah from the Ausual Suspect mare Laazteca.
Also breaking his maiden at first asking was Ojd Kali Sunrise, who broke alertly in the second trial but bore in under jockey Jorge Garcia. The Javier Fuentes trainee posted a two-length victory in 71.078 seconds, an 87 speed index into a 5 mph crosswind.
Owner-breeders Karla and Oscar Diaz bred the Jess Good Candy filly in California from the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Bus Wagon.
