OGDEN, UT–MAY 10, 2025–Shiza A Turbo, under jockey Julian Zavala, broke her maiden on Saturday while posting the fastest qualifying time for the UQHRA Maiden Frolic at Weber Downs.
The 10 fastest qualifiers from three trial races contested will return to Weber Downs on Saturday, May 31, to vie for the winner's share of the $30,000-est. purse over a distance of 330 yards.
Winless in four starts at 2, there was no doubt to Shiza A Turbo's 1-1/4 length victory today in the opening trial. The daughter of multiple stakes sire Glock clocked 16.444 seconds, equaling a 101 speed index, the fastest of the day.
Trainer Luis Ruiz saddled the bay filly to her first win for himself and co-owner Juan Ruiz. Out of the Teller Cartel mare Line In The Night, Shiza A Turbo was starting her first career outside of Wyoming, where she was bred.
Bred by Pedro Mena, Shiza A Turbo has compiled a (5) 1-2-1 record and banked $6,300.
One Toxic Lady got a neck win in the second trial under jockey Ricardo Del Cid to post the second fastest clocking of 16.824 seconds, a 94 speed index.
Conditioned by trainer Felix Tovar, the daughter of multiple stakes sire One Sweet Jess got her first win in five starts for owner Ivan Tovar. Kent Arbuckle bred One Toxic Lady in Utah from the Dash Ta Fame mare Jk Streakin Jill.
