OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MAY 10, 2025—House Of Lords, last year's second fastest qualifier to the Heritage Place Futurity(G1), who finished a troubled 10th in the final, will have a chance to redeem himself after posting the fastest qualifying time for the Grade 2, $244,000 Heritage Place Derby on Saturday at Remington Park.
The 10 fastest qualifiers from four trials tonight will vie for a winner's purse valued at $102,480 on Saturday, May 31.
Racing under new ownership and new connections this season, House Of Lords fired under champion jockey Francisco Calderon to defeat Toastin Heros by a neck in the opening trial. His 19.422 clocking for 400 yards was a 101 speed index with an 11 mph tailwind and the fastest of the night.
New owner Valeriano Racing Stables LLC and trainer Victor Rodriguez-Flores celebrated the son of Flying Cowboy 123's fourth career win in eight starts. The chestnut gelding, bred in Oklahoma by Buck Way Ranch, LLC, is out of the Okey Dokey Dale mare This Candys Okay.
A $65,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate in 2023, House Of Lords raced for Heritage Place Futurity winning owner Elizabeth Logan and trainer Dee Keener last season at 2. He broke his maiden at Remington Park before winning Heritage Place Futurity(G1) and Rainbow Futurity(G1) trials. He has earned $58,932.
Toastin Heros, runner-up in the fastest trial, qualified with the second fastest time of 19.471, a 99 speed index, under jockey Christian Ramos. Trainer Clinton Crawford conditions the Oklahoma home-bred son of Valiant Hero for owner-breeder Gene Cox.
Earlier this year, Toastin Heros qualified for the West Texas Derby(G3) and the Remington Park Derby(RG1). Bred from the Cornoas Leaving You mare Toastin With Coronas, he has earned $77,260.
Last year’s Heritage Place Futurity winner, Kempton, also ran in the Derby trials Saturday and was the 10th fastest qualifier, almost knocked off the bubble in the final trial.
