Princesa Bury Keeps Win Streak Alive With Second Stakes Victory Of The Season In The Derby Garanones

MEXICO CITY, MEX–MAY 11, 2025–Fastest qualifier from the trials, Princesa Bury, returns to the finals, preserving her superstar status with another victory lap. The three-year-old filly remains undefeated from her last nine starts after winning the $53,700 Garanones Derby on Sunday at the Hipodromo de las Americas.

Regular rider Alejandro Gomez was aboard Princesa Bury during her impressive performance. The pair burst out of the gates and never relinquished their lead, finishing with a victory of 2 1/2 lengths, recording a speed index of 95 in 17.16 seconds. The 350-yard effort paid out $1.20 on even odds.

With jockey Heriberto Camacho in the saddle, Fredas Wagon crossed the wire behind Princesa Bury in a close photo finish with Dk Melon Cartel. Piloted by Arturo Vega Moreno, Dk Melon Cartel lost the nod by a nose for third.

After cashing in the $22,500 winner’s check, Princesa Bury has over $212,500 in lifetime earnings. The daughter of leading sire Danny Cartel has lit the board 12 of 13 starts with ten career victories, including the Mexico Derby this year and the Mexico Breeders’ Futurity Challenge and Mexican Bred Futurity during her freshman campaign.

Trainer Rene Gomez saddled Princesa Bury for owner Cuadra Guillen. The $29,132 Mexico Select Yearling Sale graduate is out of Princesa Bury Buu by One Dashing Eagle.

Bred by Armando Leon, Princesa Bury was recognized as the Mexican Champion Two-Year-Old Filly in 2024 at the Hipodromo de las Americas. She is well on her way to earning another champion title for 2025, as this year's leading three-year-old money earner in Mexico.

Trainer Jose Camacho saddled runner-up Fredas Wagon for owner Cuadra Chiconcuac. The daughter of Fearless Fritz has a record of 4-4-2 from 12 starts and over $31,600 in the bank.

Rachuan Suarez bred the Fredas Wagon out of the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Beaus Wagon. She was a finalist in last year’s Futurity Garanones.

Cuadra LEA owns third-place finisher Dk Melon Cartel. Trained by Juan Vega, the son of Danny Cartel, has one win from ten starts and nearly $17,000 in earnings. Cuadra La Presita bred the three-year-old gelding out of Jumpn Jackie by Jumpn. He was a finalist in this year’s Mexico Derby.

Jacob Israelita, Cc Regal Jack, Jabuti Crisp, Stoli The Corona, and Cc First Dance round out the order of finish.
