GILLETTE, WY–MAY 17, 2025–Patrons at Energy Downs 307 Racing witnessed an exciting finish Saturday afternoon as Jess A Spittin Candy, ridden by jockey Edwin Escobedo, surged to victory in the $27,500 Ron Moosman Memorial Stakes.
The 4-year-old filly, sent off at 12-1 odds, showcased her speed and determination to complete the 400-yard race in a swift 20.146 seconds, achieving a solid 95 speed index despite battling a 12 mph headwind.
Owner-trainer Joe M. Davis celebrated the filly’s fourth career win out of 12 starts, with the triumph elevating her earnings to $61,583 after a winner's purse of $13,750.
Bred by PV Quarter Horse Farms, LLC, Jess A Spittin Candy is a daughter of the champion Jess Good Candy, out of the Salt Lake (TB) mare Salt Lake Spitty. This win marks her first stakes victory, adding a significant achievement to her resume.
Backers of Jess A Spittin Candy were rewarded with a payout of $26.20 for the win, along with $5 to place and $8.20 for show.
Finishing strong in second place was stakes winner Love Kiss J Lee, under the guidance of jockey Ceasar Moreno. The 6-year-old son of leading sire Kiss My Hocks, trained by Calli VanTassell Dominguez, earned $4,950 for owner-breeder Melody Olsen. Love Kiss J Lee is a product of the Favorite Cartel mare Love That Look and has nearly $50,000 in career earnings.
Yo Morning Delite, the post-time favorite, started well but was unable to maintain the momentum, ultimately finishing third under jockey Kody Kellenberger. The 5-year-old gelding, trained by Tryston Matt, is a multiple stakes winner from Wyoming and has amassed $186,430 with an impressive record of 16 wins in 25 starts.
Pappas Fame, High On Cuervo, Cowboyhatbygucci, Jaj Baby B Train, Freight Boss, Moon Em N Dash, and Country Rocket Foose rounded the field.
The thrilling race added excitement to the day and showcased the talent present at Energy Downs.
Live racing at Energy Downs continues Sunday with an exciting 10-race card, kicking off at 1:30 pm (MDT). The four trials for the Ron Cook Memorial Maiden will be featured as Races 2-5 will be highlighted.
