Flash Me A Corona, under jockey J.B. Botello, romps in the $15,426 (US) Horsemen's Div-1 Derby at Century Mile Racetrack on Saturday.

EDMONTON, ALB—MAY 17, 2025—Flash Me A Corona delivered an impressive performance today, securing his first career stakes victory in the $15,426(US) Horsemen's Div-1 Derby at Century Mile Racetrack.

With jockey J.B. Botello aboard, Flash Me A Corona broke sharply from the gate and quickly took the lead, finishing 1-1/2 lengths ahead. His time of 18.180 seconds for 350 yards earned him an 86 speed index despite competing against a 26 mph headwind on the fast track.

Trained by Craig Smith, the 3-year-old gelding, a son of Obsessed With Corona, achieved his second win in nine career starts for owners Jane Patriquin and Ralph Danard. Bred by Danard in Alberta, Flash Me A Corona hails from the First Moonflash mare Look Back Moonflash. The winner's share of $8,119(US) raised his total earnings to $34,073.

Notably, he finished second in the Grade 3 Alberta Bred Futurity, Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity, and the Sales Stakes Futurity as a 2-year-old.

Sizzles Boss, the Alberta Bred Futurity (RG3) winner, took second place for trainer Buckey Stockwell and owner Cinch Up Syndicate. Bred by Glenn Willis in Alberta, this two-time futurity winner, a son of Jd Wagon Boss, earned $3,983(US) in this race, bringing his career earnings to $52,161 with four wins in seven starts. He is out of the Sizzlin Red Corona mare Northfork Sizzle.

Rjs Boss, another one of Stockwell's trainees, finished third after experiencing an awkward bump while being ridden by jockey Gabriel Asencio. This graded-placed son of Jd Wagon Boss earned $1,838(US) today, pushing his total earnings to $26,908. He was co-bred by Glenn Willis and T. Copithorne and is out of the El Mistral mare Rj Bitterroot Babe.

The remaining order of finish  included Team Rip 109, Shez Cruisin Hot, and Moccasin Annie.
