HOUSTON, TX–MAY 22, 2025–Two trials featuring a total of 20 two-year-old Paints and Appaloosas were held Thursday, May 22, at Sam Houston Race Park to determine the field for the $40,000-added Colors Of Houston Futurity-G2. Contested at 300 yards, the trials produced ten qualifiers for the June 7 final, with Mrs Pyc Painted Nova and Chile Piquin posting the two fastest times of the evening.

Sent off at 7-2 odds, Mrs Pyc Painted Nova recorded the fastest time of the night, stopping the clock in 15.649 with a 92 speed index during the first trial. Jockey Claudio Aguilar guided her to the wire with a quick break and steady pace to finish more than a length ahead of the field. The effort paid $7.40 to win.

The Texas-bred filly is by Little Pyc and out of Get Down Jessie, by Get Down Perry. She is owned and bred by Michael and Maci Read and trained by Randall Read.

Earlier in the season, the filly broke her maiden at Remington Park and was a finalist in the Victoria Ennis Memorial Stakes at Remington Park. She has lit the board three of four starts with two wins and $11,709 in the bank.

Chile Piquin turned in the second-fastest qualifying time of 15.706 as runner-up to Mrs Pyc Painted Nova. Oscar Andrade, Jr. rode the daughter of Chilitos in her career debut.

Out of the Corona Cartel mare An American Cartel, Chile Piquin is owned by the Chile Piquin Partnership and trained by Zackery N. Rios. The $20,000 TQHA Yearling Sale graduate was bred in Texas by Omar Paredes.

Chilitos had a strong showing on the day. The #1 leading APHA sophomore sire produced five of the ten qualifiers to the Colors Of Houston Futurity-G2 final, underscoring his growing influence among young Paint runners. CRM Livewire was the only other sire with a pair of qualifiers to the finals.

Trainers Zackary Rios and Manuel Roman both had a pair of qualifiers
